Dermatologists Say BOTOX Patient Profile Varies

The dermatologists at Worcester Dermatology Associates say their patients using BOTOX® in Worcester and Chelmsford vary in age, sex and ethnicity. The doctors also agree that they are seeing more male patients across a wide age range.

Worcester, Massachusetts (July 2012) – Dr. Seth Kates and Dr. A. David Simkin of Worcester Dermatology Associates say they are beginning to see a much more diverse group of patients seeking cosmetic treatments such as BOTOX® in Worcester and at their second office, Chelmsford Dermatology.

“Both of our offices have seen an influx of previously nontraditional BOTOX® Cosmetic patients,” Dr. Kates says. “”For instance, I’ve been noticing a much higher percentage of males – including younger men – in my office asking about BOTOX®.”

Dr. Simkin says he expects to see those numbers grow even more in coming years.

“As the public gains more awareness of BOTOX® as a viable solution to lines and wrinkles, the patient profile will cut an increasingly broader swath across gender, age and ethnic lines.”

The trend seen by Dr. Kates and Dr. Simkin concerning BOTOX in Worcester, MA, appears to be mirrored nationwide. Statistics recently released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that between 2010 and 2011, BOTOX use grew by 8% among American males, and by 10% among Americans of both genders between the ages of 20 and 29.

ASPS statistics also indicate increased popularity of cosmetic treatments such as BOTOX® among all ethnicities in the United States. The number of cosmetic procedures performed in 2011 showed modest gains (between 4% and 8%) over the previous year in the ASPS ethnicity categories of Caucasian, Hispanic, African-American and Asian-American. Interestingly, people in the ASPS ethnicity category “Other” underwent 21% percent more cosmetic procedures in 2011 than in 2010.

BOTOX isn’t the only type of facial rejuvenation that men are seeking. Dr. Kates and Dr. Simkin say they are seeing more men coming to their offices for skin care treatments and other non-surgical cosmetic procedures in addition to BOTOX in Massachusetts.

The two doctors say it’s no longer unusual to see men coming to Worcester Dermatology Associates for laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels as well as laser hair removal and vein treatments.
