CoolSculpting Works to Freeze Your Fat Away
The FDA-cleared CoolSculpting system uses an exclusive process called Cryolipolysis® to selectively freeze unwanted fat cells, disrupting their structure and eventually causing them to leave the body naturally. Because fat cells freeze at higher temperatures than skin, muscle, and other types of tissue, Cryolipolysis doesn’t damage healthy tissue and doesn’t leave behind scars. Developed by Harvard-based researchers, Cryolipolysis is highly effective at removing localized areas of stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. Popular treatment areas include:
- Abdomen
- Flanks and “love handles”
- Inner and outer thighs
- Arms
- Back and “bra roll” area
- Neck
A CoolSculpting treatment doesn’t require incisions, needles, or anesthesia of any sort.
Another area of fat that our patients find particularly resistant to diet and exercise is the neck. Loose neck skin can add years to your face and detract from an otherwise aesthetically pleasing appearance. The CoolMini applicator is an innovation in CoolSculpting technology that can be used to tighten this common problem area and give you a more youthful look. While the CoolSculpting applicator is great for treating large areas of the skin, the CoolMini can target smaller concentrations of fat more precisely.

The CoolSculpting Experience
After receiving a treatment plan based on a careful medical evaluation at one of our cosmetic and medical dermatology offices in Massachusetts, you’ll visit us for your CoolSculpting procedure. We may recommend a series of several sessions depending on the number of areas you wish to treat.
Prior to your CoolSculpting treatment, you don’t need to fast or take any other special precautions. We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and bringing a tablet, book, or magazine to keep you occupied during your treatment.
Your practitioner first applies a cool gel pad to your treatment area. This pad helps regulate temperature and protect your skin. Your practitioner then applies a CoolSculpting treatment head over the gel pad. There are different treatment heads for different areas. If you want to target areas of “pinchable” fat, such as on the abdomen, the device uses suction to draw up a fatty bulge between its cooling panels. If you want to treat “non-pinchable fat,” such as on the thighs, a flat treatment head is strapped to your body with the cooling plates pressed against your skin.
You’ll experience a brief period of intense cold. After several minutes, the treatment area typically goes numb. In order to get the best results possible, the CoolSculpting treatment head must be in place for about 1 hour for pinchable fat and 2 hours or more for non-pinchable fat. During this time, you may read, listen to music, browse the Internet, or watch a movie on your personal device. Some patients even choose to fit in a nap.
